Meg Crum
As a social worker in the Survivors Taking Action and Responsibility (STAR) clinic at Children’s Memorial Hospital, I meet with patients and their families each week to assess for educational, emotional, and any other concrete resource needs they may have.
2007 Grant Recipients
One step at a time programs:
-The Springfield Advocacy Program for 7th & 8th graders . Students travel to the state capital and learn about the power of advocacy as they meet with legislators to address issues important to long-term cancer survivorship.
-Survivors Taking Action and Responsibility (STAR) Program at Children’s Memorial Hospital
-Salary support for the social worker in the long-term follow-up clinic
-Survivors Taking Action and Responsibility (STAR) Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital
Funding provided for a web based childhood cancer survey, an adult survivor social event with patient education and to purchase Childhood Cancer Survivor books for the long-term follow-up clinic

Girls Night Out 2007 SurvivorVision Grant Recipient
Several women who are seen in the adult STAR program at Northwestern gathered together at Urban Spa for some pampering, sharing of experiences and to quiz the dermatologist as they get ready to tackle the summer sun. 2007 SurviviorVision Grant Recipient
Twenty seveth and eighth grade student advocates made the trek to Springfield, IL in April to witness our government in action. The pediatric cancer patients and survivors were able to interact with members of the House and Senate to seek support for the resolution declaring April 6-12, 2008 as the Second Annual Pediatric Cancer Survivorship Week in the State of Illinois!
