THRIVING AFTER CANCER

Donate To Our Cause

OUR MISSION

To provide a network of support to survivors of pediatric cancer through:
  • Advocacy and support groups in the community
  • Funding to support research initiatives
  • Educational programs and access to resources that enhance survivors’ quality of life while minimizing cancer’s long-term effects
Our mission empowers survivors of childhood cancer by raising awareness as advocates on policy issues and through the funding of follow-up studies, support services, development and distribution of educational resources, and continued research on the long-term effects of cancer treatment.

OUR VISION

SurvivorVision® strives to develop more of its own foundation-based programs.
Our vision and goals include:
  • Funding more scientific research to address the total needs of the childhood cancer survivor
  • Providing a civic voice to survivors of pediatric cancer so that their voices can be heard and bring about reform to current health care policy
  • Educating lawmakers, community healthcare providers, and insurance providers about the importance of providing children and adolescents with not only a cure, but the right and equal access to appropriate survivorship care
  • Through networking and living the survivorship journey with many survivors, our organization has seen the challenges those providing care to survivors to revise existing models of care so that ancillary services come to the survivor, rather than have them navigate a complex system on their own

As stated previously, Children’s Oncology Group has published it’s survivorship guidelines and has provided models for program set up for how follow-up care should be implemented.
All these efforts address the problem of cancer- and treatment-induced late adverse outcomes. Around two-thirds of childhood survivors develop late effects, even long after treatment is completed, including a wide range of physical and psychosocial problems, such as endocrine or cardiac problems, second malignancies, psychological distress, educational problems or increased late mortality.

Barriers to survivorship clinics, education and support offerings is funding.
